Autumn Leaves: A Reminder of Rest

Do you know why the leaves change color? Simply put: they are resting after working hard.

Their most beautiful colors are revealed in the seasonal pause that God ordained. Beginning in springtime, and throughout the summer, they work hard producing food. They convert light from the sun, gas from the air, and water absorbed through the roots to produce food for energy and growth.

That growth in turn blesses the rest of nature in many ways: shade from the sun, homes for birds and animals, and lumber for homes, to name a few.

Yet when the days grow shorter, the trees know that winter is ahead, and water and light will not be as abundant. They begin to rest, living off the food they’ve stored. Chlorophyll disappears, allowing the vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds (which have been there all along), to be seen.

What about you? Is it time to allow your inner grace to reveal itself, delighting others? Jesus invites you, “Come to Me.”

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”  Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30, The Message)
Nothing is as important as staying right spiritually…the only solution is a very simple one– [Jesus says] “Come to Me…”  Oswald Chambers
